Why “Eighty Bob”?

In old British money, a “bob” was a shilling. Twenty shillings made a pound — so eighty bob came to eighty shillings, or four pounds. Once upon a time, that was the going rate for a proper cut and a bit of care.

The coins changed in 1971. The idea behind the name didn’t: a good chair, a sharp finish, and a fair price — for everyone who walks in, whichever side they’re after.

Eighty bob = 80 shillings = £4 in old money — the price of a proper cut, once upon a time.

A bit of history, mind — not today’s price list. See the board above for what a cut costs now.
